TXRA names award after Sullins
The Texas Racquetball Association announced this week it is naming one of its annual awards after longtime Maverick Athletic Club founder Bob Sullins. The Outstanding Racquetball Contributor Award is now known as the Bob Sullins Outstanding Racquetball Contributor Award.
The award is presented to a male or female who has demonstrated commitment to the sport and has volunteered time above and beyond to enhance the sport of racquetball in Texas.
"Bob, by keeping the Maverick going as long as he has, deserves more than we can give," TXRA Board President Mike Grisz said. "Naming the outstanding contributor after Bob raises the level of the award. He sets the standard for us all."
The first Sullins Award will be presented in 2019.
Sullins, who built “The Mav” in 1980, and has run it ever since until last month's announcement that it has been sold to Texas Fitt, has hosted numerous tournaments, shootouts, clinics and other events.
Sullins' contributions to the sport garnered him the 2016 Outstanding Contributor Award from the TXRA, a board in which Sullins was a part of for many years.
Sullins has been a fixture in racquetball at The Mav since its inception.
